St. Louis businesses have counted on Piros Signs for commercial signage since 1957. From our headquarters in Barnhart, just south of the city, our team designs, fabricates, permits, installs, and services signs across St. Louis City and St. Louis County, from downtown storefronts to pylon signs along I-270 and Manchester Road.
Lighted and LED Signs for St. Louis Businesses
We build every kind of commercial sign local businesses need:
- Illuminated signs: LED-lit cabinets and faces that read clearly day and night.
- LED displays and electronic message centers: Programmable displays for retailers, churches, schools, and auto dealers, set up to follow local rules.
- Pylon and high-rise signs: Tall, double-sided signs built to catch traffic on I-270, I-44, I-64, and Manchester Road.
- Monument signs: Ground-level signs for office parks, medical buildings, churches, and schools.
- Storefront signs: Channel letters and wall signs for retail centers and main street storefronts.
- Digital signs and scoreboards: Scoreboards and digital displays for schools and athletic facilities.
Sign Installation in St. Louis
Our own crews install the signs we build, so one team owns the job from the shop floor to the final inspection, with no handoff to a subcontractor. Learn more about our sign installation services.
Sign Maintenance and Repair in St. Louis
A dark letter or a flickering cabinet tells customers you are closed. Our sign and lighting service team repairs damaged signs, replaces failing lighting, converts older signs to LED, and refaces existing cabinets so you can update your brand without replacing the whole structure.
Signs Built for St. Louis’s Business Corridors
St. Louis is a big metro with very different sign needs from one neighborhood to the next.
- Downtown and Washington Avenue: Dense blocks and historic buildings call for projecting signs, channel letters, and building signs that fit the architecture.
- I-64, I-270, and I-44: Highway frontage businesses need high-rise and pylon signs that read at highway speed.
- Manchester Road, South Lindbergh, and Gravois: Suburban retail strips full of multi-tenant centers, restaurants, and auto dealers, where pylon signs, monument signs, and menu boards do the work.
- Chesterfield Valley and West County: Big-box retail and auto dealerships where tall pylons and monument signs are planned alongside new development.
St. Louis is also home to hospitals, universities, school districts, and churches, where monument, wayfinding, and building signs help visitors find the right entrance.
Sign Permits and Codes in St. Louis
Sign rules in St. Louis depend on where your business sits. Inside the City of St. Louis, signs are governed by Chapter 26.68 of the zoning code and need a permit through the city’s Building Division. St. Louis County and each of its municipalities have their own sign codes, so a sign in Chesterfield follows different rules than one in Fenton.
A few rules shape most sign projects here:
- In the city, ground sign height depends on zoning: up to 30 feet in the F, G, and H commercial districts, up to 50 feet in the J and K industrial districts, and 20 feet in the downtown Central Business District.
- Electronic message centers are allowed in the city only in the J and K districts, and messages cannot scroll, flash, or animate.
- Signs in the city’s historic districts must also meet that district’s historic standards.
Piros handles the permit process for you, including drawings, applications, and code review, so your sign is approved before installation day.

St. Louis Sign FAQs
Do you install signs in St. Louis, MO?
Yes. Piros Signs designs, builds, installs, and services commercial signs throughout St. Louis City and St. Louis County from our headquarters in Barnhart. Our own crews handle the installation.
Do I need a sign permit in St. Louis?
In almost every case, yes. Inside the City of St. Louis, sign permits go through the Building Division, and St. Louis County and each municipality has its own permit process. Piros prepares the drawings and handles the permit application for you.
How tall can a pylon sign be in St. Louis?
It depends on the city and the zoning. In the City of St. Louis, ground signs can reach 30 feet in most commercial districts and 50 feet in industrial districts, but only 20 feet downtown. Suburban cities set their own limits, so we check your property before we design your sign.
Can I put an LED message sign on my St. Louis property?
Sometimes. In the City of St. Louis, electronic message centers are limited to industrial districts and cannot scroll or animate. Many county municipalities allow them under their own rules, and we confirm what is allowed before you buy.
Do you repair LED, neon, and pylon signs in St. Louis?
Yes. Our service team repairs damaged signs, replaces failing lighting, converts older signs to LED, and refaces sign cabinets for St. Louis businesses.
Do you work outside St. Louis?
Yes. We serve St. Charles County, Jefferson County, the Illinois Metro East, and Mid-Missouri, with locations in Barnhart and Holts Summit.
